wakeupnew: Trees strung up in red-pink Christmas lights with giant blue-lit spheres hanging from the boughs ([scenery] turn on the lights)

I just keep saying "OMG" out loud to myself

MOST ARTICULATE.

So I wrote Yuletide fics all day yesterday, from about three in the afternoon to nine in the morning. It was not my greatest decision ever, when it comes to "things to do while sick," but it was thoroughly exciting and fun and worth it. In the end, I wrote seven (maybe soon-to-be eight; I am eyeing one final Madness prompt) fics, six and three-quarters of which were written in that time period; it's a little over 10,000 words in one day in total. I am grossly proud. And just gross in general. I need to work on my procrastination habits. I feel like they are all HILARIOUSLY OBVIOUSLY written by me. I will accept guesses, though I can't confirm or deny until January 1!

AND: I have two amazing giftfics! Both are for the ridiculous "You Belong with Me" parody video that I pimped the hell out of for weeks, and you should all READ THEM and then go and tell the authors how wonderful they are. No fic will ever exist for this outside of Yuletide, which is part of the reason that I love Yuletide so, so very much.

A Real Florence Nightingale, by anonymous
"Devon!" Devon is wrapped up in a bone-crushing hug, warm lips pressed against his forehead, and all he can do is sink into the embrace and wish he could fall asleep right here in the station. Ed smells so good, like cologne and winter air and home. Ed's sigh ruffles his hair. "You're totally sick, aren't you? And you didn't tell me because you were hoping that ignoring it would make it go away?"

"If it's any consolation, no one feels worse than me right now," Devon says into Ed's shoulder.

"Take me to your dorm so I can chain you to the bed." Ed flushes at Devon's raised eyebrows. "Shut up, you know what I meant."

"Ooh Mister Darcy ooh," Devon says, because it makes sense at the time.

So Devon and Ed are doing study abroad (in different countries) in college, and Devon is in London and sick as a dog, and within about two sentences (actually, when I saw the title), I knew that someone out there who is reading this right now did this for me. It is so sweet and funny and gentle; the loving sarcastic banter is delightful and the nerd jokes are fabulous and, unsurprisingly given that I am 99.9999% sure the writer came from my f-list, completely up my alley. It just made me want to curl up in bed with someone who will cry at the end of The Fellowship of the Ring.

And so the vampire fell in love with Frankenstein, by anonymous
Devon's in his room doing his Spanish homework, all alone since Ed left for baseball practice, when Jenna drops in. She nods toward the (now curtained) window and looks expectantly at Devon. “So, Devon Swan, how is the lovely Edward?”

Horrifyingly, Jenna has realized that the object of Devon’s affections shares a name with a certain sparkly vampire, and she takes a truly unreasonable amount of pleasure in highlighting this fact. The very worst part of this development is not that Devon is an actual Twilight fan and Jenna gets details wrong; it’s that Devon is secretly Team Jacob. (Although, seriously, he will tear his hair out if she proposes that Ed whisk him off to a romantic getaway in “Spoons, Washington” one more time.)

Oh my God, this is such a good Yuletide for me. I really hope that the author comes back and adds a summary, because this fic is wonderful and I want as many people as possible to read it! It walks the perfect balance between cheeky/funny and sweet; watching Devon flail his way through his pining is hopelessly endearing, and I love his slightly-evil-but-well-meaning sister. There is an entire metaphor surrounding sting rays that I want to clutch to my chest and keep close to me forever. The author does neat things with the canon, too, which I don't want to spoil but were a delightful surprise! I thought I knew how the story ended, and then BAM, a surprise!

Oh my god, I can't wait to read these stories. The second excerpt made me cackle.
