Yuletide reveals!
STUFF THAT I WROTE FOR YULETIDE THIS YEAR!
like film stuck in a projector (Kim/Scott/Ramona, Scott Pilgrim [comics])
Afternoon Delights (Scott and Wallace, Scott Pilgrim [comics])
Fall on Your Knees (Randy/Chad, "Almost, Maine" - John Cariani)
What to Expect When Expecting (April/Andy + ensemble, Parks and Recreation)
Tea for Three (Kathy/Don/Cosmo, Singin' in the Rain)
Best Care Anywhere (Father Mulcahy + ensemble, M*A*S*H)
Of Cats and Rabbits (Jade/Beck + Andre and ensemble, Victorious)
Deserve Each Other (Scott Pilgrim [comics]; Rated T; Kim/Ramona/Scott with appearances from just about the entire cast; 5300 words)
Because clearly it was not enough to have written fic that filled in the comics' gaps for one supporting character, I did it again this year. Basically: this is Kim trying to get her shit together, and growing up. More of myself went into this than I'd really intended, funnily enough. I say 'funnily enough' because the same thing happened with the Stephen Stills fic that I wrote last year; a bunch of my own queer experience wound up bundled into that one, much as a lot of my 'what in the fucking fuck am I doing with my life' existential angst came in handy for Kim's story this time around.
My recipient asked for something where Scott realizes just how awesome Kim really is, and the threesome practically writes itself, dudes; Kim is pretty clearly pining after Scott for, like, half the comics, and Scott kisses her, and Kim kisses a girl and Ramona is canonically bisexual, and Ramona and Kim have the comics' biggest mutual admiration society, right down to Ramona repeatedly proclaiming that she wants to marry Kim and Kim being invited home to sleep in their bed. I love these characters and I love this world and it was a delight getting to play in it again, especially with a Kim-centric story. I looooove Kim Pine.

Afternoon Delights (Scott Pilgrim [comics]; Rated T; Scott + Wallace; 1000 words)
This was a last-second pinch hit! Which, thankfully the original pinch hitter came through and wrote something for the recipient, so mine wasn't necessary, but I had quite a bit written by the time I found that out and decided to finish anyway. I've somehow never written for Wallace Wells despite having done, like, 17000 words of Scott Pilgrim fic in the past, and let me tell you, THAT SHIT IS FUN. Wallace's trollface outlook on life: my favorite.

Fall on Your Knees ("Almost, Maine" - John Cariani; Rated T; Randy/Chad; 2500 words)
A few days before the deadline, I saw a pinch hit go out on the list, and, intrigued by seeing 'Maine' in the title, I did some Googling. That is where I found out that "Almost, Maine" is a play comprised of a series of one-shot scenes about a fictional Maine township called Almost. It debuted at the playhouse where I learned to love theatre as a little girl, and then made it to Broadway, where it tanked. It went on to become one of the most popular modern plays, with community and high school theater groups across the country, ever. The recipient asked for fic based on the one-shot called "They Fell," which is about a pair of good old boys who realize they'd rather spend their nights with each other than with the women they've been trying to date. I found the scene on YouTube, watched a bunch of different versions (this one was probably my favorite; the prat-falls are amazing, though the accents are HAHAHAHA, WHAT ARE YOU DOING??), and then wrote the most nostalgic, homesick love letter to my hometown that has ever been written.

What to Expect When Expecting (Parks and Recreation; Rated G; April/Andy + entire ensemble; 1000 words)
1) HAHAHAHA I AM SO SNEAKY, A BUNCH OF YOU READ THIS AND NO ONE GUESSED THIS WAS ME (or if they did guess, they didn't tell me!)
2) This was really fun. Like, really, really, really fun. I pounded it out as part of my Christmas Eve/Christmas morning treat-writing extravaganza, and I cackled the entire time because Parks and Rec characters are the best characters. I have been sort of overwhelmed by the response, which has been really lovely; I'm happy that people liked it!

Tea for Three (Singin' in the Rain; Rated G; Cosmo/Kathy/Don; 1400 words)
I'm not totally sure how this happened. Threesomes, and poly in general, are generally not my thing (I am totally down with other people digging it, it's just that it's not something I am usually into!). And yet somehow I wrote multiple threesomes this year! I saw Singin' in the Rain for the first time this month, just by chance, and I was immediately like OH COME ON, THOSE THREE ARE MARRIED; watch "Good Morning" and try to convince me otherwise! I love the movie and I love the three of them both together and separately, and picturing them singing and dancing and laughing together forever makes me really happy. That is all that you really need to know about this fluffiest of fluffy fics. (Well, that and that "My Blue Heaven" will forever be tied to M*A*S*H for me.)

Best Care Anywhere (M*A*S*H; Rated G; Father Mulcahy + most of the seasons 1-3 cast; 1300 words)
This will always be my favorite show. I will always run with excuses to get to write M*A*S*H-fic, especially for Father Mulcahy. It's my beloved old faithful, and Mulcahy is my most favorite of all. The recipient's prompt for Mulcahy's first day at the 4077th was inspired.

Of Cats and Rabbits (Victorious; Rated G; Jade/Beck + Andre, Cat, Tori, and Sikowitz; 1700 words)
This one was fun! I loved
melodiousb's Yuletide letter and what she had to say about the show and saved it back in November, so especially when I saw that there was nothing for the show in the archive, this was a very easy writing decision to make! I spend a lot of time ragging on the writers for what they do and do not do on the show, and I have to admit that writing this -- maintaining some kind of interest, coming up with a haphazard plot, figuring out how to fit in a bunch of the characters, getting voices right -- was harder than I'd expected. So I guess points to the show's writers?? (Sort of. I'm still very frustrated by a lot of what they choose to find funny.) ANYWAY: I want to write ALL OF THE VICTORIOUS FAN FICTION! I think this is the one where someone guessed my identity, if I read
summerstorm's cryptic comment correctly.

All in all, it was a good Yuletide! I am in Paris and will be til later in the week; happy new year!

Deserve Each Other (Scott Pilgrim [comics]; Rated T; Kim/Ramona/Scott with appearances from just about the entire cast; 5300 words)
Kim wishes Ramona hadn't chickened out and split. She has that wish for a lot of reasons, but right now, it's primarily because she thinks Ramona would get not knowing what to do with her life, in ways that most of Kim's other friends wouldn't. Stephen definitely doesn't get it, anyway. "Ask Cole," Kim says. "He'll probably be fine with it as long as you keep Scott and cutlery away from him."
Stephen snorts and they share a companionable silence for a few seconds. Kim listens to the soft hissing tap-tap-tap of sleet on the windows. "Seriously, Kim--"
"I don't know," she interrupts, sharp. "I don't know if I'm coming back."

Afternoon Delights (Scott Pilgrim [comics]; Rated T; Scott + Wallace; 1000 words)
"Yeah, well--" Scott starts, already struggling, "you should - go and make out with your psychic boyfriend!!"
Wallace stands in the doorway and just looks at him for a minute. "Scott, I would just like you to know," he says, "that I will always be impressed by your witty comebacks."
"Shut up," Scott says, his face pressed into the back of the couch.
"They're amazing and I treasure each and every gem. Forever."

Fall on Your Knees ("Almost, Maine" - John Cariani; Rated T; Randy/Chad; 2500 words)
"Wait," says Chad, shoving himself up on his hands; "wait, wait wait -- game's about to start."
They stare at each other. In the background, the crowd roars.
Randy licks his lips. "You've, uh, got DVR, right?"
Chad dives on him.

What to Expect When Expecting (Parks and Recreation; Rated G; April/Andy + entire ensemble; 1000 words)
"It's true!" Andy says, perched at a table in the courtyard with April in his lap, his arm slung around her waist. "There is going to be a tiny Ludgate-Dwyer in this world, and he and/or she is going to be super adorable."
"My mom is already knitting, like, baby shoes and stuff. It's dumb," April says, but she quirks a faint smile, rolling her eyes, as Andy growls playfully and sways back and forth with her.
There is a murmur of a question.
She shoots a blank look behind the camera. "Whatever, it'll be fine," she says. "Like it's hard to raise a kid."

Tea for Three (Singin' in the Rain; Rated G; Cosmo/Kathy/Don; 1400 words)
"You! I saw you when Mr. Simpson was talking! Terrible; you're terrible," she scolds Cosmo, laughing and stealing his hat off his head so that she can beat at him with it.
"Like you weren't thinking it!" he says, irrepressible as always as he tries to duck away from her and toward Don. "Don, help a fellow out here!"
"Terrible, you're terrible," Don tells him, and he hits Cosmo with his hat while Kathy laughs and laughs.

Best Care Anywhere (M*A*S*H; Rated G; Father Mulcahy + most of the seasons 1-3 cast; 1300 words)
Once inside a second office, where a man is standing behind a desk with his back to the door, the sentry throws a salute. "Colonel Blake, sir! Reporting with new personnel, sir!"
"New personnel?" asks the man wearing a fisherman's vest and hat (lures and all) over his fatigues. "Klinger, what in the hellllll--" He turns around midway through the word, gets one look at Mulcahy, and starts tripping over his own tongue. "--eeeccckkk're you talking about. Holy cow, Klinger," he hisses. "Jeez louise! Did you have to wear something like that when you're meeting the new chaplain?"

"You heard the lady," Jade said, standing up and grabbing her bag, and then she went into that weird guttural drawl that she did whenever she imitated Tori. "You're the hero! Can I have your autograph?" She fluttered her eyelashes at Beck.
"Hey! Hey! I don't talk like that!" Tori insisted vehemently. "I've never talked like that!"
"Maybe," Beck said warmly, ignoring everything else that was going on and looking right down at Jade, and Andre saw the moment when she twitched and almost smiled.
This one was fun! I loved

So far yours has been my favorite of the Parks & Recs fics (I've only read a handful of the many that were written this year, though), and I have the Scott & Wallace one downloaded to read, too.
